Grand Theft Auto 6: What We Know So Far
A New Chapter in the Series
Grand Theft Auto 6 is expected to arrive in the fall of 2025, and while there's still much to be revealed, some key details have surfaced. The game is currently set to take place in Vice City, with a Bonnie and Clyde-esque storyline featuring a pair of criminal lovers. We know the female protagonist will be named Lucia, and leaks suggest the male counterpart will be named Jason. However, beyond this, not much is confirmed.
A Standalone Story
Unlike previous games in the series, Grand Theft Auto 6 is expected to be a standalone story, disconnected from the rest of the franchise. However, this shouldn't deter players who are new to the series, as Rockstar Games has a history of creating games that can be enjoyed without prior knowledge of the series. The Grand Theft Auto franchise is more of an anthology series, allowing players to experience new stories with new characters in different settings.
A More Grounded, Gritty Story
Grand Theft Auto 6 appears to be a more grounded, gritty story about an immigrant being pulled into a life of crime and violence. This is in stark contrast to Grand Theft Auto 5, which was a more over-the-top action game about a trio of criminals committing grand heists.
Returning Characters
While we may not see familiar faces from past GTA games, it's likely that Rockstar Games will bring back some supporting characters in GTA 6. We've seen this in GTA Online, which has brought back characters like Gay Tony, Brucie, and Michelle. However, it's unlikely that we'll see characters from the PS2-era of the franchise, such as Tommy Vercetti, due to the different universes in which they exist.
Niko Bellic's Return
Fans have been eagerly awaiting the return of Niko Bellic, but it seems unlikely that we'll see him again. Niko's actor, Michael Hollick, had a contentious relationship with Rockstar Games after the release of GTA 4, citing unfair compensation. However, other actors from GTA 5, like Ned Luke (Michael), Shawn Fonteno (Franklin), and Steven Ogg (Trevor), have spoken positively about their experience with Rockstar Games and may return in some capacity.
Potential Returning Characters
Some potential returning characters that could show up in GTA 6 include Lester, Jimmy, Tracy, Steve Haynes, and Lamar. While it's unlikely that these characters would play a major role in the story, they could make appearances in side missions or as part of the game's lore.
The Focus on Lucia and Jason
Ultimately, the focus of GTA 6 will likely be on Lucia and Jason, based on Rockstar's track record. The game's story will undoubtedly be grand and action-packed, but it's possible that returning characters will play a smaller role in the overall narrative. Either way, we'll have to wait until the game's release in fall 2025 to find out more.
