Disney Lorcana and Star Wars Unlimited Ban Card Updates: Competitive Play Adjustments
Disney Lorcana Bans Two Cards from Competitive Play
Disney Lorcana, the latest trading card game from Ravensburger, has made its first move to ban cards from competitive play. Two cards have been banned: Hiram Flaversham – Toymaker and Fortisphere. These cards are being removed from the Core Constructed Format used in Disney Lorcana Challenge events and tournaments. However, they can still be used when playing against friends and family.
Details on the Banned Cards
- Hiram Flaversham – Toymaker: A 4-cost 1/6 card with the Artificer ability, which allows you to draw 2 cards when you quest.
- Fortisphere: An Item with two abilities: Resourceful (draw a card when played) and Extract of Steel (banish the item to give a character Bodyguard until the start of the next turn).
Star Wars Unlimited Suspends Four Cards
Star Wars Unlimited, another popular trading card game, has announced the suspension of four cards from the Premier format. The cards in question are Triple Dark Raid, Jango Fett, and DJ.
Details on the Suspended Cards
- Triple Dark Raid: A card that has become overly powerful since the release of Jump to Lightspeed. The new additions to the game have allowed it to become a top damage dealer.
- Jango Fett: A Leader that, when combined with Triple Dark Raid, made it extremely challenging to take it down. However, it was also deadly on its own, making it a candidate for suspension.
- DJ: A card that can permanently steal resources with ease, a playstyle that was not intended by the game designers.
Statements from Game Developers
- Elaine Chase, Chief Marketing Officer at Ravensburger, stated that no card is designed with the intention of not being played in competition, but sometimes bans are necessary to keep the meta-game healthy and exciting.
- Staff members at Fantasy Flight Games said they wouldn't want to errata the cards but due to their impact, decisions were made to correct them.
