Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3: What to Expect from the Next Chapter
After the releases of Final Fantasy 7 in 2020 and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth in 2024, fans are eagerly awaiting the third installment of the remake series. While the release date is still years away, Square Enix has been sharing hints about the upcoming game, which may potentially be a PS6 title or a cross-gen release between PS5 and PS6.
A New Twist for the Third Game
According to director Naoki Hamaguchi, the team is looking to introduce a "twist" in the third game, which will deviate from the balance established in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. Hamaguchi wants to avoid the pitfalls of open-world games, where regions often feel repetitive and use the same mechanics with minimal change.
- "A huge, repetitive open world that uses the same mechanics, with minimal change, in each and every region," Hamaguchi noted, citing a common criticism of many open-world games.
- "We wanted to make sure that each region in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth felt fresh and exciting," Hamaguchi explained. "With the goal of adding a 'breath of fresh air' when entering a new area."
A Breath of Fresh Air in an Open World
Hamaguchi highlighted the team's efforts to create a unique experience for each region in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, with the inclusion of various mini-games and mechanics that set each area apart. He expressed satisfaction with the result, saying it felt like a "breath of fresh air in an open world."
A Twist to Come
Hamaguchi teased that the team may not stick to the same formula for the third game, hinting at a change in direction. "Have we reached perfection?" he asked. "I think if we did just do the same thing again for the third game in the series, then it wouldn’t really be very new or exciting anymore."
While Hamaguchi did not elaborate on what this "different twist" might be, it's clear that the team has something in mind. Fans will have to wait and see what surprises await them in the next installment of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake series.
